[SEO-Members] Best Material Handling Practices Refresher

The SEO staff thought it would be a good time to remind everyone about best materials handling practices.


  *   All items should be shipped inside one of the following:
     *   Large or Small Canvas Bag
     *   Small zipper bag
     *   A cardboard box if the item is too large for either of the above.
     *   NOTE: Shipping items in just a bubble mailer without the bag increases the likelihood of the item getting damaged in transit.
  *   We encourage everyone to NOT overfill these bags. It makes them extremely heavy for library staff to handle and the more that is in the bag increases the likelihood of damage to library materials.
  *   Please place a rubber band around books to keep them together during shipping and avoid fouling of the pages. For very lightweight books we suggest using carboard to support it. It is important not to make the rubber band too tight, as this will also damage the books.
  *   Audio-Visual material should be placed in bubble mailers or bubble wrap secured to the material with a rubber band.
  *   Please use a slip knot to secure the clasp on canvas bags. It will keep the bag closed, yet it is not difficult to untie. Here is a link of how to tie a slip knot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-GIsVcX62M
  *   If a note needs to be placed on an item, do NOT use tape in any form. The note should be a Post-it style note or secured to the item with a rubber band and then place a piece of tape to the rubber band and the note itself so the tape in no way touches the books (see below).
