The Buckeye Children's Book Award Council is pleased to announce the nominees for the 2024 Buckeye Children's Book Award and the 2024 Buckeye Teen Book Award. The following titles were chosen by young readers across Ohio through an online nomination process.

Buckeye Children's Book Award:
Grades K-2

  *   Big by Vashti Harrison (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, 2023)
  *   The Big Cheese by Jory John, illus. by Pete Oswald (HarperCollins, 2023)
  *   Frank and Bert by Chris Naylor-Ballesteros (Nosy Crow, 2023)
  *   Simon and the Better Bone by Corey R. Tabor (Balzer + Bray, 2023)
  *   Stinkbird Has a Superpower by Jill Esbaum, illus. by Bob Shea (G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers, 2023)

Grades 3-5

  *   The Mystery of the Radcliffe Riddle by Taryn Souders (Sourcebooks Young Readers, 2023)

Buckeye Teen Book Award (grades 9-12)

  *   Four Found Dead by Natalie D. Richards (Sourcebooks Fire, 2023)
  *   The High Desert: Black. Punk. Nowhere. by James Spooner (Harper, 2022)
  *   I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston (Wednesday Books, 2022)
  *   Made of Stars by Jenna Voris (Viking Books for Young Readers, 2023)
  *   One of Us Is Back by Karen M. McManus (Delacorte Press, 2023)

To be eligible for nomination, a book must have been published in the United States in the previous two years.  Voting is open to any student in Ohio, and runs September 1 - November 10, 2024 on the Buckeye Book Award website: www.bcbookaward.info<http://www.bcbookaward.info>. Winners will be announced after December 1, 2024. Nominations for the 2025 awards are being accepted at the same website through March 10, 2025. The Buckeye Book Award is notable among other state programs because the books are nominated entirely by Ohio's children and teens.
