[SEO-Members] Library Leadership Ohio 2024 concludes

Library Leadership Ohio (LLO) 2024 convened last month at the Cherry Valley Hotel in Newark, Ohio. Virtual LLO conferences were held in 2020, 2021, and 2022, making this the first in-person conference since 2018. LLO spans nearly 30 years, with over 400 alumni holding various positions in libraries not only in Ohio but also nationwide. By nurturing exceptional leaders, LLO contributes to the enhancement of libraries. Through specialized programs concentrating on personal growth and adaptable leadership abilities, LLO promotes networking and partnerships within Ohio's extensive library network. The 31-member cohort selected for LLO 2024 consisted of individuals from public, academic, school, and special libraries from all over Ohio.

During the 3-day conference, the cohort learned more about their leadership strengths, personal and professional values, timely and critical library issues, and techniques for taking care of themselves and their staff. Highlights of the program included a presentation and daily reflection activities from noted Harvard University designer and researcher Beck Tench, a lunch-and-learn session from Ohio History Connection archaeologist Brad Lepper, and a closing keynote from American Library Association (ALA) president Emily Drabinski. Participants enjoyed networking and sharing experiences and ideas throughout the week.  One participant noted, “I felt challenged, learned a lot, got many specific solutions to problems, my brain was happy learning new things, and gave me confidence to do better at my job. I highly recommend it to all my colleagues.”

State Library of Ohio and OhioNet<https://www.ohionet.org/> collaborated on the program. The LLO planning committee included Erin Kelsey, Katy Hite, Evan Struble, Penelope Shumaker, and Jeff Regensburger from the State Library of Ohio and Hannah Rosen and Jillian Tuttle from OhioNet. The program was made possible by Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
