[Picture] The State Library of Ohio is pleased to announce the Library Juice Academy Digital Curation Cohort program<https://library.ohio.gov/libraries/training-and-development/digital-curation> is returning in 2026. This initiative offers 15 Ohio library staff members or cultural heritage professionals the opportunity to complete coursework and earn a Digital Curation Certificate from Library Juice Academy. Participants will be selected through a competitive application process, with the State Library overseeing their enrollment in the six-course series. Federal funding awarded to the State Library from the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) and provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) will cover the enrollment costs for each participant. The award-winning Digital Curation Certificate from Library Juice Academy is crafted to develop skills in areas such as digitization, digital preservation, metadata creation, and beyond. This program is ideal for individuals interested in this field, regardless of their previous experience.
"The State Library of Ohio is dedicated to offering innovative and high-quality continuing education opportunities for library staff across the state, and in this case, library personnel in the areas of digitization and digital preservation," expressed Evan T. Struble, Associate State Librarian for Library Development "Following the success of the cohorts from the past three years, we are excited to continue our partnership with Library Juice Academy."
The six required courses are asynchronous and virtual. Cohort members will be assigned to a schedule of courses that will allow participants to finish in calendar year 2026. Participants should expect to take one class per month until the course is complete. No additional software or textbooks need to be purchased, but students will need access to a laptop or desktop computer with an internet connection and an updated web browser.
Each four-week course involves approximately fifteen hours of work to complete.
In addition to the six digital curation courses, the State Library of Ohio, requests that each cohort member report out on their classwork in one or more of the following ways:
1. Present a lightning talk, or participate in a panel discussion, in person at the 2026 ODNFest, Date to be announced in Spring 2026
1. Present a lightning talk, or participate in a panel discussion, virtually at a fall 2026 webinar highlighting the Digital Curation Cohort, Date to be announced in Spring 2026.
1. Commit to providing at least three (3) mentorship meetings of at least thirty (30) minutes with a fellow colleague, staff member, or volunteer, sharing what you've learned in the Digital Curation Classes and/or providing tips and tricks through a train-the-trainer approach. Then create a written documentation of each meeting, and compile into one report to submit to the State Library of Ohio by October 31, 2026.
1. Provide a written report about the experience of being a part of the Digital Curation Cohort, as well as the collection that the participant worked on and submit it to the State Library by October 31, 2026.
Library, archive, or museum workers in Ohio, full- or part-time, are eligible to apply for this program. However, it is not open to current students in credit or certificate-granting programs. No pre-requisites are required.
Applications are now available on the State Library website<https://library.ohio.gov/libraries/training-and-development/digital-curation/lja-apply> and are due November 16, 2025. Those chosen for the cohort will be informed in December 2025, with classes set to commence in February 2026. All selected members must attend the mandatory introductory meeting on January 8, 2026, at 10 a.m. which will be held online.
