[SEO-Members] Request for Recommendations: Bed Bug Detection

We use Four Paws too. (St Marys Public Library) We love them! Staff love to take turns meeting them. They usually can schedule for a time before we are open.

I have lost track of the number of bedbugs that we have found on deliveries or from nursing homes. (less than 10, but it happens)

We have the dogs come every 4 months. This gives my staff so much relief knowing that they aren’t taking bedbugs home. I can’t stress this enough.

ONLY one time did we have a section of stacks to treat. We have decommissioned a stuffed chair….

We know that we won’t have an “infestation” because we are all watching for bugs.

We use this to treat books:

This works great, but I think we could have used a smaller one. You have to loosely pack the items so the heat can get through to all of them.

A smaller one would heat up faster and easier to manage the loads.

I also bought this:

As soon as a bug, dead or alive is spotted – they put the bug in a Ziploc bag and look at them with the light.

We also have a card printed out from OSU

https://u.osu.edu/bedbugs/

This helps us identify if it is a bedbug or not.

We do not spray any toxin on the items. We have pitched a few books from that first time.

Morgan

Hello,

Has anyone worked recently with bed bug detection services? We have had several bugs identified by staff, and are trying to determine if the collection has been compromised. I remember having a detection dog at a previous library, but don't recall the organization who provided it. Recommendations appreciated!

Location: Bucyrus/Crawford County, Ohio.

Thank you!
