[Jay Miley sitting at desk]The State Library of Ohio is pleased to announce the promotion of Jay Miley to Director of Consortial Services. In his new role, Jay will lead the State Library’s transition to and administration of the SearchOhio consortium while continuing to oversee customer services and support for library management software for Serving Every Ohioan (SEO) consortium member libraries.



Jay joined the State Library of Ohio’s SEO Service Center leadership team as Library Customer Services Manager in 2019. During his tenure, he has successfully overseen a wide range of services provided by the SEO Service Center, including providing support for SEO consortium member libraries and the administration of the consortium’s library management system. Jay’s leadership has helped strengthen service delivery and enhance support for libraries throughout Ohio.



As part of an ongoing commitment to ensuring and expanding access to library resources for all Ohioans, the State Library recently announced that it will assume administration of the SearchOhio consortium. The SearchOhio interlibrary loan partnership is unique among Ohio’s library consortia, enabling statewide resource sharing between public libraries and academic libraries that participate in OhioLINK.



“Jay’s previous experience in public libraries, including roles in technology, circulation, and customer service, has given him a comprehensive understanding of library operations and resource sharing,” said State Librarian Mandy Knapp. “His combination of operational expertise, collaborative leadership, technical knowledge, and dedication to expanding access to library resources makes him especially well qualified to lead Ohio’s consortial services into the future.”



SearchOhio is a statewide consortium of 49 public libraries sharing collections to maximize resources and expand access for library users across Ohio. Through this consortium, patrons can access more than 18 million items, nearly half of all physical materials held by Ohio’s public libraries. SearchOhio supports approximately 750,000 lending transactions annually, significantly extending the reach of local library collections.



SEO library consortium is a separate collaborative network of 104 library systems at 290 service points throughout 52 counties across Ohio using the OPLIN network. A branch of the State Library and headquartered in Caldwell, Ohio, the SEO consortium allows patrons to share a massive, centralized catalog of over 8 million physical and digital items.



Prior to joining SEO, Jay worked at Orrville Public Library where he was an Emerging Technology Specialist. He also worked as Circulation Manager at Mercer County District Library and Library Assistant II at St. Marys Community Public Library.



Jay earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Management from Ohio University and Master of Library and Information Science from Kent State University iSchool.
