This week, furniture, office supplies, technology, and equipment for State Library staff offices are being relocated to our new space on the 5th floor of 35 E. Chestnut Street<https://maps.app.goo.gl/MRH1T8pUN4KertQ29> in downtown Columbus. During this transition, staff continue to be fully available during normal business hours and non-holidays by phone and email without interruption. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work toward fully opening and operating our new location.
Work is nearly complete on carefully relocating the State Library’s physical collections including rare and unique books, manuscripts, and government documents to a specialized archival facility in Gahanna. This facility offers state-of-the-art environmental controls and preservation conditions designed to ensure long-term care, security, and accessibility of these invaluable materials. The relocation strengthens our ability to safeguard Ohio’s heritage while improving how collections are preserved for future generations.
In addition, the State Library’s Talking Book Program for Ohioans who are blind or print disabled is relocating to the Gahanna facility, where there is ample space for storing and distributing National Library Service (NLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled Talking Book players.
This transition represents a significant and forward-looking investment in library services. New workflows are being established and refined. Access to our digital collections and Services for the Blind and Print Disabled will continue without interruption, ensuring that essential resources remain available during this transition. Please stay tuned for updates on State Library patron account registrations and circulation of physical materials.
Although this work temporarily pauses some services, it ultimately supports a more efficient, sustainable, and user-centered library system. Ohioans will benefit from improved preservation of collections, enhanced service infrastructure, and more effective long-term access to materials.
We thank the public for their continued patience and understanding as we work to provide the best possible service. Look for an announcement soon with additional updates as progress continues.
