[SEO-Updates] SEO Important Update: Streamlining Enterprise Profiles Project

Greetings SEO Members,

AT A GLANCE
On January 7, 2026, we are streamlining the Online Catalog, Enterprise by moving to a "System-only" profile model. This reduces administrative overhead and improves speed, while preserving branch-specific availability and sorting local items to the top of the details view.






THE DETAILS
What Is Changing
We are currently in the process of consolidating our Enterprise profiles. We will be moving from a "System and Branch" structure to a "System-only" model. Practically, this means we are reducing the total number of profiles from over 280 down to 104.

Why We Are Doing This

  *   For Patrons: This removes the confusion of wondering if they are on the "right" branch profile. It creates a unified, seamless entry point for their search. The availability will show if the item is available in all of your library locations, not just the profile specific location. We expect performance to increase as there will be less data on the servers to process thus enhancing the patron experience.
  *   For You: This significantly reduces administrative overhead. You will no longer need to manage multiple PAC configurations for individual branches.
  *   For SEO: This benefits the SEO staff by eliminating the need to manage and configure 280+ profiles centrally. This consolidation will lead to fewer configuration mistakes, easier updates, and faster troubleshooting if issues arise.
Timeline - Implementation Planned for January 7th, 2026

  *   We will be making the necessary code changes throughout this month and performing extensive testing to ensure a seamless transition for your patrons.
  *   We will notify all library staff via the seo-updates listserv on December 15th.
Preserving Local/Branch-Level Visibility
We understand that seeing branch-specific availability is critical. To ensure your patrons can still easily find items at their local branch, we have implemented two custom features:


  1.  Custom Availability in Search Results: We have updated the search results display to show specific branch locations. If an item is "On Shelf," the search result will explicitly list the branches where it is available, rather than just the profile specific location.

  1.  Smart Sorting in Item Details: When a patron clicks into the full details of an item, the holdings table will now prioritize your library. The list is customized to sort first by System and then by Branch (in alphabetical order). This ensures your patrons see your local copies at the top of the list.

We believe these changes offer the best of both worlds: a simplified, easy-to-manage catalog with the granular detail your patrons rely on.
