Attention: Librarians

Librarians love books...words and authors! So, I know that you will
want to know about a new "Ohioana Authors" radio series and website,
which provide portraits of Ohio authors and their contributions to
American culture.

The Ohioana Library, in partnership with NPR 820 WOSU AM and with a "We
the People" grant from the Ohio Humanities Council, has launched an
"Ohioana Authors" a 52-week radio series produced and aired on NPR WOSU
820 AM each Friday morning at 7:50 a.m. Several other stations around
the state will also carry the program. But, never fear, even if you are
out of listening range or you can't listen at 7:50, the website,
www.ohioana-author.org <http://www.ohioana-author.org/> will be
archiving each program and you can clip on "listen to NPR radio audio
clip" and hear the program. Kassie Rose, the host of the series stated,
"We learn from an early age that literature reflects life-our dreams,
our fears, our ability to love. Ultimately, we believe that literature
has the ability to effect change. Perhaps that is why so many of our
most talented men and women have gravitated towards the literary arts,
and Ohioans are no exception."

The series started on Friday, January 7, 2005 with a portrait of Rod
Serling... remember The Twilight Zone? Go to the site now and you will
find a list of some of the authors click on Rod Serling, and read the
short write up about him, then you will find a box with "Listen to NPR
820 radio feature" click on it and Walla - you can hear the series.
This Friday, January 14, Nikki Giovanni was featured and next week, Joan
Chase and the following will be Sherwood Anderson. PLEASE LISTEN
NOW!!! It is only 2.7 minutes long and I assure you that you will love
it. Oh, and please share this information with contacts that you might
have that would enjoy knowing about and hearing the series.

For your information, we have learned that WOUB will be airing the
series, but we aren't certain when. WCPN in Cleveland has promised to
feature the website. WGTE in Cincinnati thinks they'll add it in
February if they can find a place where it feels right on a classical
station. WGTE in Toledo is on board and the series is listed on their
front page. http://www.wgte.org/fm91 We have not heard from Kent State
yet or some of the other NPR stations in Ohio.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
