[OPLINLIST] cash deposits for books

Does any library require a cash deposit for books that disappear frequently,
such as ASVAB?  My board is concerned with the number of ASVABS that are
never returned and wonder if a deposit ($5.00) would either deter, or help
defray the cost of replacement.  Also, I am interested in how many
small/medium libraries utilize, or would utilize, a collections agency to
recover lost items or fines.  We cannot afford to keep replacing the same
items over and over, yet continue to have requests.  Please reply off-list.
If enough discussion is generated, I will post answers.
