*Please excuse any cross-postings*.

Whether we’re calming a patron frustrated by fines or assisting a harried
student searching for sources, library work is full of emotion. But what
toll can this ‘need to be nice’ have on library staffers? No matter if
you're a front-line staffer or a member of the management team, consider
joining Dr. Miriam Matteson, a Kent State SLIS faculty member, and
OHIONET’s own Shelly Miller for *Emotions at Work: Examining Emotional
Labor in Librarianship<http://ohionet.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=146>
*, next Tuesday, February 19th at 3:30 PM.

Miller and Matteson are currently conducting research on the concept of
emotional labor—the requirement to display organizationally-prescribed
emotions and the strategies used to meet those expectations—and are eager
to share their findings and facilitate discussions among practitioners. In
this 90-minute webinar participants will have the opportunity to...

   - Develop a clearer understanding of the phenomenon of emotional labor

   - Learn about the presenters’ research to date on the topic, including
      - the overall evidence of emotional labor in the library world,
      - different strategies at work for coping with the demands of
      organizationally-required emotional displays, and
      - how those strategies can influence on measurable outcomes like job
      satisfaction and work withdrawal.

   - Gain insights into recommendations to begin addressing this topic at
   all levels of their organizations.

*Remember - OHIONET webinars are free to premium member libraries!***

*When: *Tuesday, February 19, 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM
