Books Selected for Choose to Read Ohio 2015 & 2016
Columbus, Ohio - April 16, 2014 - In conjunction with National Library Week, the State Library of Ohio, Ohioana Library Association, and Ohio Center for the Book are pleased to announce the 20 books selected for Choose to Read Ohio 2015 & 2016. The featured books, by authors native to, residing in, or associated with the Buckeye State, highlight a rich tapestry of literature available for Ohioans of all ages to read and share.

Choose to Read Ohio (CTRO) encourages libraries, schools, families, book clubs, and others to build communities of readers and an appreciation of Ohio authors, illustrators, and literature. Selected books are suitable for use in classrooms, libraries, bookstores, by book discussion groups, by families, and by other groups in various community settings. Participation may be as simple as a small group choosing to read and share a book together, or as elaborate as a community-wide reading initiative with special events and author appearances.

CTRO booklists follow a two-calendar-year program cycle, but readers are encouraged to read and share any current or past CTRO books at any time. Previous CTRO booklists have spotlighted titles by Ohio authors and illustrators including Toni Morrison, Denise Fleming, Will Hillenbrand, Virginia Hamilton, Angela Johnson, J. Patrick Lewis, Daniel Kirk, Cinda Williams Chima, Katrina Kittle, and many others.

The books on the CTRO 2015 & 2016 list will be showcased at the Ohioana Book Festival, Saturday, May 10 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center in Columbus. Free and open to the public, the festival offers author discussion panels, book signings, children's activities, food trucks, and a book fair featuring nearly 100 authors. Among them are several whose books appear on the new or previous CTRO booklists: Laura Bickle (The Hallowed Ones), Cinda Williams Chima (The Demon King), Jeffrey Ebbeler (Tiger in My Soup), P.L. Gaus (Blood of the Prodigal), David Giffels (All the Way Home), Karen Harper (Mistress Shakespeare), Lisa Klein (Two Girls of Gettysburg), Amit Majmudar (The Abundance), and Mindy McGinnis (Not a Drop to Drink).

The CTRO booklist 2015 & 2016 was developed by an advisory committee representing schools, libraries, and literary organizations, with input from 50 additional teachers, librarians, and other book lovers.
