[OPLINLIST] Guiding Ohio Online update

In June the State Library of Ohio announced that we received an Ohio AmeriCorps Formula Planning grant for $29,077 from the Commission on Service and Volunteerism (ServeOhio)<http://www.serveohio.org/> to develop a program for public libraries called Guiding Ohio Online (GOO).  Our vision for the initiative is for every Ohioan to be able to fully participate in e-government, search and apply for jobs online, understand the risks and benefits to internet finance, connect with family online, and protect personal information in the digital age.

State Library Consultants Mandy Knapp and Evan Struble are coordinating the project. It began in August with the development of a program plan for placing AmeriCorps members in rural libraries throughout the state in order to provide digital literacy assistance to the population that the libraries serve. AmeriCorps members will assist libraries with computer instruction, community outreach when it comes to technology, hands-on help and other technology-related duties to fulfill the Guiding Ohio Online vision. Program activities will primarily be in the areas of workforce enhancement and digital literacy.
Libraries that wish to participate in this program must provide a small matching fund to secure either a full-time AmeriCorps member (40 hours/week) or part-time AmeriCorps member (20 hours/week).

Part-time: Library match is $1250.00

Full-time: Library match is $2500.00

Providing these matching funds will secure an AmeriCorps member at your library for an 11-month period, tentatively scheduled to begin in the fall of 2014.

Additionally, branding for the project is complete and training packages are in development. Mandy and Evan have collected feedback, identified potential rural libraries to participate in Guiding Ohio Online, and are starting the process of recruiting AmeriCorps members.
