Job Duties: Establishes, provides, explores, develops, implements & maintains access to State Library electronic resources & content (e.g. supports, evaluates & maintains electronic journal subscriptions, electronic books & databases); works with supervisor & other staff (e.g. catalogers, IT staff) to ensure resources are available through the State Library's online catalog & other discovery tools as appropriate; coordinates & manages records needed to track electronic purchases, subscriptions, access setup & maintenance & licenses; works with cataloging staff to ensure catalog maintenance of electronic resources; troubleshoots patron access to resources in conjunction with IT department; compiles & analyzes usage data, including cost per use, for electronic resources; evaluates, establishes and maintains electronic resources management software; under general direction & in conjunction with supervisor, researches license terms & pricing; identifies, evaluates & stays current with emerging trends, practices & standards in electronic resources, discovery & user behavior (e.g. participates in professional development activities related to electronic resources; provides technical expertise & training on electronic resources).

Provides reference and library user assistance to state employees, government officials and library patrons using specialized resources (e.g. ebooks, electronic journals & databases, historical materials, maps, abstracts & indexes, government documents, census records, microformats, etc.); answers reference & research questions & corresponds with library customers in person, electronically (e.g. email, chat, text), via regular mail and telephone; works with other staff to ensure that collection (e.g. electronic resources, print material) aligns with collection development policy; assists in identifying & discarding obsolete material from collection. Keeps current on library industry trends & new technologies for delivery of library services; attends meetings and workshops as required; participates with departmental heads in developing, planning & improving library services; performs clerical duties related to library services (e.g. maintaining records & statistics, preparing reports, shelving, filing, shifting books).

Prepares appropriate bibliographic information for entry in electronic databases for materials in all formats (e.g. print books, electronic resources, maps, etc.); under general supervision, assists other staff in a variety of departmental & agency activities (e.g. digitization, collection development, government documents, electronic resources maintenance); maintains accurate, timely holdings data (e.g. electronic & print serials, other electronic resources) in multiple online library systems; assigns Library of Congress & Dewey Decimal classification numbers as well as Library of Congress subject headings; provides cataloging services, including creating original catalog and authority records, using established policies & procedures; confers with other staff to ensure a high quality of cataloging service.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in library science from accredited college or university; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in library organization &/or administration; 12 mos. exp. as a reference librarian. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Skill in: use of various types of office equipment such as computer &/or audio-visual equipment*; use of library hardware & software, such as print & microformat digital scanning and printing equipment*; use of office suite software; service orientation; active listening; critical thinking.
Ability to: gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; apply principles to solve practical problems; interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals & manuals; use proper research methods to gather data; answer routine inquiries concerning library use & operation; apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense; combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events); tolerate complexity & ambiguity; work in a team-oriented atmosphere; communicate in a professional, tactical, tactful and knowledgeable manner.
Competency in: customer focus; establishing & maintaining personal relationships.
