The Bay Psalm Book is not only the first book printed in America (from Cambridge , MA of the Bay Colony) in 1640 by the Puritans - but as a new translation of the Psalms it is also the first book written in America . Only 11 copies of this remarkable book survive. The copy of the Bay Psalm Book belonging to the Old South Church in Boston will be sold at Sotheby's November 26, 2013 . This is one of the finest surviving copies and will be the first time a Bay Psalm Book has appeared in the marketplace in over 65 years. The 1640 Bay Psalm Book is not simply one of the greatest icons of book history, it is one of the greatest artifacts of American history.
