Summary
The Director of Besse Library is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction and overall management of library services and collections, including the College Archives and the Stamp Room Collection in alignment with the College's mission.  The director is responsible for planning, budget, and staffing in support of the academic, instructional and information needs of faculty, students and staff.  This is a full-time, 12 month position, which reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and is a member of the Deans and Directors Council.


Responsibilities

  *   Creates an environment that facilitates research and scholarly activity with an understanding of innovative and traditional methods of information dissemination.

  *   Direct library operations, and manage and supervise library professional and support staff including Patron Services and Instruction, Bibliographic and Technical Services, Library Electronic and Media Services, and the College Archives and Stamp Room Collection.
  *   Plan, implement, administer and assess all library resources and services for student learning and faculty effectiveness.
  *   Works with library and department heads, as well as external sources, to identify, evaluate and implement programs that improve services and facilities, enhance the quality of resources and increase operational efficiency within the library.
  *   Develop and administer the library's annual operating budget.
  *   Develop the collection of all types of materials such as print, media and electronic resources that support the curriculum and maintain the collection through selective weeding of outdated or superseded materials.

Qualifications

  *   Master's degree in Library and Information Science is required. An ALA accredited degree is preferred.

  *   Minimum five years library experience, academic experience preferred, with increasing administrative responsibilities, including supervision experience.
  *   Demonstrated expertise with information technology and library systems.
  *   Commitment to higher education at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  *   Service orientation and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  *   Demonstrated experience within an inclusive community.
  *   Flexible work schedule including some evenings and weekends.
