[OPLINLIST] Enthusiam Growing for New NCIP and Ohio Libraries Share-MORE!!

Wow!  The momentum and enthusiasm is picking up by the numbers who are
signing up to see this demonstration.  I want to encourage all who were
interested to sign up soon because classes are filling up quickly.  The
statewide demonstrations start next week!  

 

This demonstration will also show other new features of the new Ohio
Libraries Share - MORE software.  Here are some of the other features
that will be showcased:  

 

*	Brokering requests to OCLC as a library of last resort
*	Unmediated AV material requests
*	Low volume email alerts
*	Emphasis on reduction of staff time in handling statewide
resource sharing requests
*	...and NCIP (NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol)

	*	NCIP is a protocol that allows the resource sharing
software to directly perform transactions with unlike circulation
systems
	*	NCIP has eliminated double entries between the resource
sharing and circulation systems
	*	As a Lender/Responder, NCIP will:  1) place holds on
your available items when a request is made, so it shows up on both the
OLS-MORE and the Circulation System Pick list ; 2) when an item is
shipped in the OLS-MORE system it will automatically Check the item out
to the MORE generic patron in the circulation system; 3) when an item is
Checked In to the OLS-MORE system it will automatically check it back
into the circulation system from the MORE generic patron
	*	As a Borrow/Requester, NCIP will:  1) upon doing a
Receive in the OLS-MORE system, it will automatically create a temp
record in the circulation system and place a hold using the requesting
patron's barcode; 2) upon doing a Return in the OLS-MORE system, it will
check the item in from the patron (if it hasn't already been done) and
delete the temporary record.  
	*	We have tested NCIP successfully with SirsiDynix Unicorn
and expect TLC to follow soon.  By spring, we are hoping to be working
with SirsiDynix Horizon and Polaris.  
	*	This will cut workload down by approximately 60% and
enhance the statewide resource sharing program
