The Dayton Metro Library is seeking a full-time Homework Help Manager to join the Youth Services team.  The successful candidate will manage the homework help centers located in select library locations. They will be responsible for providing ongoing training for those staff, volunteers, and Americorps members who are assisting students as well as an onboarding program for those new to the Homework Help Centers.  The ideal candidate will promote the services and programs of the Homework Help Centers and the Dayton Metro Library with local schools at parent/teacher organization meetings, school open houses, school in-service days, etc. The Homework Help Manager will identify and/or develop resources to support students during the school year.  Additionally, the homework help centers will be available during the summer for those students who are working to improve their skills in various subjects or who are looking for enrichment activities. Essential Job Duties

*         Plans and implements the homework help program during the school year.  Creates and oversees summer enrichment opportunities in the homework help centers.

*         Maintains awareness of state educational standards and advises on alignment of homework support with state and educational goals.
*         Assists with promoting and recruiting strategies to attract and retain staff and volunteers for homework help. Manages AmeriCorps or other grant projects that support homework help.
*         Supports Youth Services Director in developing and maintaining rapport with schools and community organizations directly related to homework help. Plans programs and services to support K-12 academic achievement.
*         Under the direction of the Youth Services Director, hires, manages, evaluates, and schedules Library Aides and subs for Homework Help initiatives.  Coordinates with Volunteer Services Manager to identify volunteer opportunities.  Directs the work of onsite volunteers.  Communicates with the Youth Services Director on staffing issues.
*         Acts as liaison to local schools and school districts to promote homework help.  Networks through staff, current volunteers, and parent/caregiver organizations and agencies to advertise homework help.
*         Identifies, recommends, creates and administers training for homework help staff and volunteers, including an orientation program, as directed by the Youth Services Director.  Provides ongoing training for staff and volunteers that work directly with students.

*         Provides the Youth Services Director with regular reports and analytical studies showing value-added contributions of homework help activities. Maintains accurate records of student participation, staff training documents, and parent interactions.

*         Supports Youth Services Director and Youth Experience Manager in designing new system-wide initiatives aimed at students particularly related to supporting important educational milestones, such as 3rd grade reading proficiency.

*           Provides direct support for homework help in the absence of staff or volunteers.


Job Qualifications

*         Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as policies and procedure manuals.

*         Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

*         Ability to speak effectively and apply active listening skills. Ability to communicate effectively when dealing with patrons, staff and members of the community.

*         Ability to effectively provide one-on-one instruction and present public training sessions. Ability to deal effectively with confrontational individuals and/or challenging situations.

*         Ability to develop programs and services to meet community needs.

*         Valid Ohio driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and continuous insurability required. Ability to drive a vehicle.

*         Bachelor's degree in education from four-year college or university preferred; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

*         Previous supervisory experience preferred.

*         Knowledge of volunteer services preferred.


Compensation and Benefits:  Starting annual salary is $51,267 with an exceptional benefits package.
