MidPointe Library - Library Specialist – Part Time - Monroe Ohio

This position is eligible for a conditional $1,200 hiring bonus!



Do you enjoy creating activities, programs & events appropriate for teens?



As a library specialist, your days would be a mix of creating, preparing, & presenting educational & creative activities, programs & events at the library & at the local schools. Besides programming, you'll provide excellent customer service at the desk; provide computer assistance; give reading recommendations; accept passport applications; & give instruction on how to use the online card catalog, the Internet, print station, e-reader tablets, & library research databases. At times, you'll also process holds & reserves; look up materials; sort; shelve; shelf read; & use lists to pull materials.

To Be Successful, you will need to:

  *   Have a high school diploma or equivalent, a college degree is highly desired.
  *   Have US citizenship for passport duties.
  *   Have a valid driver’s license, be insurable, & have a reliable means of transportation.
  *   Have prior experience creating, preparing, & presenting activities, programs, & events that are creative, educational, & appeal to teens.
  *   Have excellent customer service as well as a strong service/work ethic; be organized, efficient, self-motivated, welcoming & be able to problem solve.
  *   Have excellent knowledge of literature for all ages.
  *   Have computer experience that includes MS Office, the Internet, & ideally the library catalog & research databases.
  *   Need to be able to independently (& with others), quickly & favorably respond to new or changed responsibilities and/or situations, be detail oriented, & be able to prioritize & handle confidential information.
  *   Learn new skills as the library evolves & changes.
  *   Learn and carry out the responsibilities of the position.
  *   Must be able to effectively read (including cursive), write, speak, & understand English.
  *   Regular and predictable physical attendance is required.


Hours:

24 hours/week; sample 2-week rotating schedule:

Week 1: Monday - Wednesday 9:00-3:00, Thursday 1:15-7:15

Week 2: Wednesday 9:00-3:00, Thursday 1:15-7:15, Friday & Saturday 9:00-3:00



Rate of ​Pay:

The pay range is $15.74 – $24.89, the pay rate depends on experience.

Physical Requirement:

-Must have the ability to move book crates that could weigh up to 75 pounds when full & move book carts that could weigh up to 200 pounds when full.

-Must be able to work in areas that may contain odors including cleaners & disinfectants, dust, and other possible allergens.

-Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate library equipment as needed & visual acuity to operate library equipment as needed.
