A Note From the
Executive Director

The NEO-RLS Membership Discussion: How to Get Involved event was held yesterday. It was explained that NEO-RLS depends on the participation of its members for governance, input on continuing education and services, and continuous feedback through its Board of Trustees, Board Committees, and Advisory Groups.

We are committed to developing these groups to accurately reflect the diversity of the membership we serve, bringing a range of perspectives and experiences to the decision-making process. When these groups are composed of individuals from diverse backgrounds, they are better equipped to identify and address the challenges faced by the organization.

Based on the questions and feedback from the discussion, I would like to highlight the following:

  *   These opportunities are open to all library staff working in a NEO-RLS member library, regardless of position.
  *   You do not need to be an expert on the topic to join an Advisory Group or Board Committee. Perspectives from all levels and experiences are valued and appreciated.
  *   These opportunities are a great way to network with peers, gain professional development, and have an impact on the Northeast Ohio library community.

Learn all about ecobricks at the ALAO Sustainability Interest Group's virtual Earth Day 2023 program. Elyse Adrian, a Bowling Green State University student, will explain what ecobricks are and how they can reduce the environmental harm caused by single-use plastics. Attendees will also have the opportunity to start building their own ecobrick during the workshop.

This hour-long event will consist of two presentations. Each presentation will run about 20 minutes followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. The first presentation will focus on the counter-archives and its preservation of marginalized histories, while the second presentation will discuss sustainability in archives and climate change.
