[SEO-Members] "NEW" label residue?

We do not use New stickers.  All of the new books go onto the new book
section shelving.  A date is stamped on the inside cover when an item is
processed.  The staff flip through each book when they are returned, and
if the date is within the last six months, it is shelved with the new
books.  If it is outside of that six months, it is not shelved with the
new books.  Each month, the staff pulls the books off of the new book
shelf that are no longer new, and they are shelved with the regular
fiction or nonfiction.  This prevents us from having to peel off any
stickers or label locks and clean the spines.  The patrons never needed
the stickers anyway because all of the new books are shelved together in
the new book section.  If you purchase a replacement copy of a book and
just want it to go on the regular shelves, you can put an X next to the
date, which alerts staff to the fact that it should not be shelved with
the new books.  Your staff may resist initially (at least staff did at
three different libraries when I made the change away from new book
stickers)...and then it just works and they are happy to not have to
peel the stickers off.

Best regards-
Eric
