Please plan to join the Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 7 PM for the latest in its Cecil Striker Society for the History of Medicine Webinar Series.

The presenter, Jeanne Kisacky will give a talk entitled What Nineteenth Century Hospital Designers Knew about Minimizing Airborne Transmission and Why It's Been Forgotten.

Jeanne Kisacky is a writer and architectural historian whose research focuses on the interaction of design and health. She has studied architectural design as well as architectural history and taught classes at Cornell, Syracuse, and Binghamton Universities. Her publications have focused on the history of hospital design up to World War II.

She is fascinated by the influence of design process and modern building materials and technologies on healthcare facilities. She considers the hospital as a community element–influenced by urban context, nursing strategies and patient communities as well as by theories of disease and ever-changing medical practice.

She is currently working on a history of post-war hospital design and construction, focusing on the Hill-Burton Act of 1946 which spread hospitals and hospital design standards to all corners of the country.

For webinar login credentials please see the Winkler Center's website here: https://libraries.uc.edu/libraries/hsl/winkler-center/cecil-striker.html
